Overview

Bird imports are more regulated than other exotic pets. Birds can only enter the U.S. through Miami (MIA) or New York (JFK) and are required to undergo 30-day quarantine (unless returning to the U.S.). Proper documentation and customs clearance are mandatory.

What We Do for our bird import process

We provide full-service support for exotic Birds imports: If you have already paid any of these fees, we will not bill them to you.

Coordinate with airlines and US Fish and Wildlife, the USDA and CBP specifically for bird imports.
Ensure all health certificates, permits, (CITES if needed) and quarantine requirements are met.
Handle duty/tax implications if applicable.
Set up the quarantine process and timelines.
Transfer your bird upon completion of 30 days quarantine

Some fees are inclusive of our admin fees for our processing of therefor slightly higher than if you did on your own.

AVI Customs Bird Import Admin fee – $650.00
Customs Clearance $180.00
Airline import fee (based on LH will vary based on your arrival airline) $250.00
Bird Import permit $350.00 includes us applying on your behalf – CITES permits are additional fees as needed
US F&W Import Permit $150.00 includes us applying on your behalf
Aircraft cleaning fee – $350.00
Inspection at arrival from USDA-VS inspector prior to transport to quarantine
- $166.00/hr, and if the flight arrives in the late afternoon/evening or on a weekend, there would be additional overtime charges as well as “commuted travel time” charges – it is important to have flight arrive before 3:00 PM to avoid any overtime fees which could be upwards of $600 additional
30 days quarantine and isolation $22.00 per day – $660.00
swabbing for disease testing – avian influenza and Newcastle disease – $110.00
Pickup from quarantine at end of 30 days and transfer to airport with cost of flight to final destination – $750.00 – $1050.00 depending on final destination and crate size
Any additional testing or vet fees that may arise during quarantine will be the responsibility of owner to pay directly.
All balances will also incur an additional 3% if paying via credit card – wire transfers are a flat rate of $25.00
